Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 94184
Support for the Common Printing Dialog
Last modified: 2013-07-30 02:18:56 UTC
On the Printing Summits which I have organized as part of the OpenPrinting project, developers of the Linux printing environments, desktops, applications, printer manufacturers, and usability experts have agreed on creating a Common Printing Dialog so that users have the same printing dialog with all applications and desktops. The dialog was designed by the OpenUsability project and you can see its specs and links to pages about it here: https://www.linuxfoundation.org/en/OpenPrinting/CommonPrintingDialog The dialog is supposed to be provided by the desktop environments and accessed from the applications by a D-Bus API (specs: https://www.linuxfoundation.org/en/OpenPrinting/CPDAPI). The dialog is not only a common dialog for all desktops and applications, it is also the most feature-complete and a concept designed by the OpenUsability project. So replacing the dialog of OpenOffice.org by this one would be a great step forward in many aspects. Switching to the new dialog will also fix issue #94111. What needs to be changed on OpenOffice.org is replacing the current dialog by appropriate D-Bus calls to call the new dialog. As the new dialog is not yet available everywhere one could run the old built-dialog if the D-Bus call to the new dialog stays unanswered. For testing the D-Bus interfaces the development snapshots of the new dialog can be used. Links to them are on https://www.linuxfoundation.org/en/OpenPrinting/CommonPrintingDialog It is recommended to fix issue #94173 before fixing this one.
