Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 9716
OLE graphics not loaded if Word file contains many objects
Last modified: 2003-02-22 13:54:19 UTC
I found that under special circumstances an inserted picture of an MSWORD (Office XP) document is not converted (imported) properly. I will attach a 3-page-long .doc file to this report, it contains a picture and several equations in MSWORD. When I open it in OOW 643C, the equations are imported correctly. BUT at the place of the picture OOW shows only a strange symbol and the next text: “SvOutPlaceObject” in red(!). If one deletes all the equations in MSWORD and leaves the picture alone, and saves and opens the file in OOW, the conversion seems to be perfect. Could it be a memory or a special buffering(?) problem? (Because I have only 128 MB RAM...) (I use Intel Pentium III Processor, 450 MHz, and 128 MB of RAM and a 10G HDD.)
Created attachment 3830 [details] This is an OfficeXP Word Document containing 3 pages: a picture and some equations.
Tamas, thank you for using and supporting OOo. As a workaround, insert the picture into the Word doc as a graphic ( jpeg, png, etc ) instead of a MS Picture OLE object. Duplicated on Win2k server SP3, OOo 643c. Removing 2 equations from the bottom of the file using Word 2K allows OOo to load the picture at the top of the file properly. Reassigned to MRU
MRU->CMC: when I copy the offending OLE Object (MS Photo Editor Object) into an empty doc and import it into Writer, it is displayed correctly.
22 objects. Change "Tools->options->StarOffice->Memory->Cache for inserted objects from 20 to 30" and reload and it will works o. Some problem with caching methinks. cmc->mba: Who's responsible this object caching stuff ? I'm gussing so3/framework.
No, it's the container app, here obviously writer. So if you think that's a problem with the cache handling, you should look into the writer code. But first we will investigate this.

The problem was that temporary storage was not copied to persistent location.
Reopened to reassign it.
