Description quetschke 2003-02-06 16:31:26 UTC
The online help says:

Outline Numbering...
Use this function to define the format and appearance of an outline numbering.
These settings are only valid for the current document.

It is very easy to get a
---
1. Chapter
1.1 Section
1.1.2 Subsection
---
numbering scheme, but if you need something like:
---
1. Chapter
1.1 Section
1.1.2 Subsection
2. Chapter
...
A. Appendix
A.1. A-Section
...
---
you are lost.

Is it planed to use different "Outline Numbering..." styles in one document
in the future? They should be connected to a Section or Page break.

And the table of contents should honor the different styles.

I'm not sure if I would like to have multiple outline numberings
connected to multiple sets of paragraph styles.

And no - you're not lost with your 'Appendix'

You can use a new set of paragraph styles for the Appendix headings
that inherit the settings from the usual Heading styles and assign a
numbering stlye of your choice to the the newly created stlyes.
After that add the new styles to the table of content at the
appropriate level.
The only missing feature IMHO is that you cannot assign a default
level of the numbering to the new styles and you have to indent the
numbering level for each sub-chapter.

Thanks, yes I already discoverd the possibility using a numbering style.

Another possibility is to use the outline level 1-5 for normal chapter
numbering and use outline level 6-10 for Appendix numbering.

Works also, but you still have the problem of drawings, illustrations,
text and table numberings. The numbering scheme should be based on the
top level, e.g.: Abb.: 2-17 for the 17th picture in Chapter 2 and
Abb.: B-3 for the third picture in Appendix B.

At the moment I solve this problem by using captions for drawings in
chapter 1-x (Outline level 1) and captions for illustrations in
Appendix A-y (Outline level 6)

Works, but you need two categories of the only four per type.

If the master document would use the outline styles of the used "slave"
documents (also in Table of contents) this would also be a nice
possibility. ;-) Doesn't work, tried that.

I just discovered that you can create a new "category" with
Insert->Fields->Variables: Choose "Number range", type a name
for your new "category".

One positive side-effect is that I now can insert a caption for
the category "Abbildung" and don't need to change "Illustration" to
"Abbildung" for every caption. (Still have to rename AbbildungA to
Abbildung for the Appendix, but ... )

vq, could you please see whether your problem is addressed in Issue 5058? Thanks.

vq->pinkernell: I guess you posted the wrong issue number, that one is
about uploading a public key.

Sorry! It's Issue 5038. Thanks.
Comment 8 quetschke 2004-02-12 19:17:52 UTC
vq->pinkernell: Oh, yes, it is indeed a duplicate of that issue. As this one is
newer I close it as duplicate.
