Description issues@www 2000-11-28 08:49:24 UTC
The attached file contains a small spreadsheet and is
saved by oppen office in 34k.

When saved as Excel 97/2000 it becomes 16+ Megabytes.

I believe that it is because it has been formatted
white text on black background.

I suspect that it has formatted every cell from A1 to IV32768
explicitly, where as in the openoffice format, and in excel, it has been
more intelligent.

Comment 2 oc 2000-11-28 10:42:26 UTC
Workaround:
There is a better way to create such a file: open a new spreadsheet, press F11
to open the Stylist, make a right click on DEFAULT and choose MODIFY. Now you
can change the default cellstyle to a black background and a white font.
Comment 3 gunnar.timm 2001-01-30 14:22:47 UTC
found several probs concerning these area (also in import) which must be fixed
asap
Comment 4 gunnar.timm 2001-04-06 13:37:06 UTC
Achieved level of 'compression' is less than Excel but much better than previous
version. (e.g. 16MB for one sheet reduced to 1.5MB)
This shouldn't be the maximum of what one could do in general. But the
differences in the document structure (OOo Calc <-> Excel) are to big to
implement the complete Excel behaviour in a short time -> has to be done
sometime in the future.
Comment 5 oc 2002-01-14 10:50:09 UTC
Fixed, but failed.
Comment 6 oc 2002-01-14 10:51:19 UTC
The original fix doesn't work anymore.
Comment 7 daniel.rentz 2002-01-29 09:44:41 UTC
Will be done with implementation of export of default column and default row
formatting.

target->OOo2.0
Comment 10 daniel.rentz 2003-02-24 15:25:01 UTC
Problem in attached document: Border around entire sheet, forces export of all 16M cells,
because last row and last column are different from all other cells.
Not fixable, missing core
functionality: Calc has to store default row/column formatting.

target back to OOo2.0
