Description issues@www 2000-12-13 10:36:32 UTC
cannot install OpenOffice 613.
it crashes during installation on regirtering of components.
it gives an error message, like: cannot access memory on 0x000000.
after pushing the ok button the installaion ui disappears.
starting of OpenOffice does not work.
the program runs about 10 sec but nothing to be seen on the monitor.

In the final stage of the installation process the following
error occured through the "Registering Components" stage:

1. "The 'ctl614mi.dll' components were not able to be registered."

then after clicking "Ignore" the installation program crashes
(disappears).

When first installing it, some more components were not able to be
registered, through the following second installation it crashed
after the first error message.

I don't really know what's happening, because when using Windows98
it all ran nicely...

I'm using Windows 2000 Professional on a Pentium II, I'm logged in
as Administrator, there's enough free space on the harddisk,
I've 128MB RAM.

This error occured with StarOffice 5.2, and all OpenOffices released
so far.

I use the one part zip-install file for win32intel.

The installation program crashes each time when it is run at the same
point ("registering components") when it is run, so the error is
reproducible.

When starting OpenOffice after the broken installation either nothing
happens or once more an DrWatson-error occures.

Hi Calia Cave!

This issue sounds much like issue 111. We are having the same problems on some
Win 2000 / Win NT machines. No resolution for the problem so far.

Does anybody have any ideas how to track the error?

I've got a hint from a friend using staroffice5.2 on a w2k machine. he simply
installed it o a win9x box, then made a copy of the installed dir and reused it
on the w2k system.
it works but the following problem: i don't know what exactly is done through
the installation process but my friend reported me that with this "copy"-method
no winword documents can be saved - the save process fails in some way.
i tried his copy of staroffice5.2 and it works, i can even save winword
documents. maybe it works for me because i already had some "failed"
installation of staroffice and openoffice on my computer and therefore also had
the needed files normally not found in the default staroffice directory.

wouldn't it be possible make openoffice install like the old-fashioned programs
did? with ini-files and in only one directory, keeping the whole stuff that
belongs to openoffice in it's home-directory? that would really make new
installations easier.

I repost this in the issue 111 because that one seems to be more active...

Please check again with oo 641. We had a problem with the progress
display on some graphic cards and rewrote the whole thing.

As mentioned on the qa dev list on March 5th I will close all resolved
<wontfix/duplicate/worksforme/invalid> issues. Please see this posting for
details. First step in IssueZilla is unfortunately to set them to verified.
