Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 368
Paste does not/only sometimes works under Debian 2.2
Last modified: 2003-12-06 14:52:34 UTC
Paste seems not to work a great deal of the time under Debian 2.2 with X 4.0.2 and glibc2.2.1 ... Not sure if it's due to libraries, but it's more annoying than I would consider tolerable. Pasting from Netscape, gnotepad+, Pronto, etc does not work - I don't think OpenOffice is playing nice with the clipboard. I think this is a UI problem. Not sure. If it's not, please pass it on to the appropriate person.
Some questions: - What is the outcome of the possible selections if you try "Edit-Paste Special" when trying different clipboard contents (text, graphic, "mixed" document parts...? - The clipboard is under construction anyway. Do you recognize a difference in the behaviour of a 619?
Ulf, if the submitter remains silent, keep this one in mind when following the clipboard implementation progress.
Clipboard still under developement, but check-out 627 for improvements.
I have had this same problem way back to the 617 and before.. I thought it was just me but no copy/paste works between any terminals, gnome-apps, or even Mozilla... Makes it very difficult to write anything but standalone documents... without openning the documents in openoffice first.
Doesn't work with 633 using Debian testing between most apps. Can copy from mozilla and jpilot using ctrl-ins. But cannot paste from OO into them. Highlightening selection doesn't work at all in xterm.
I can't paste at all into OpenOffice (text document) I'm using OpenOffice 638 and I've tried pasting from Evolution, KWord and Netscape (three different widget sets) and *nothing* works. My distribution is Mandrake 8 with the KDE2.2 upgrade. Is there anything I can do to help? Not being able to copy and paste makes OpenOffice rather unfriendly from a usability standpoint David
I'm seeing the same here with Debian 2.2. If I mark something in a an xterm and go to the Edit menu in openoffice 638 there isn't a "Paste" option there. The same happens if I try it from Mozilla. Maybe I should open a separate issue on this, but it would be nice if openoffice followed the standard UNIX way that if you select something in a document you should be able to paste that text in another part by just a middle-click.
bug 1535 seems to indicate that this is at least partially resolved. Any idea when the next build will be released so we can see exactly where things stand? This kind of very basic platform-specific correctness is crucial for Unix users to chose oo over other, more native alternatives like AbiWord.
