If I have a list of titles that are in alphabetical order, shouldn't I be able
to use the "sort" feature and pick something other than the first column to sort
by to make the list random? what exactly is a column in that sort feature? No
matter what I do in there it just makes it alphabetized either ascending or
descending...please help?

I have recreated the issue on windows-7 and Open office 4.0.1.

Note: The software Ultra edit -32 version: 10.0 has sort feature and it can sort the text (numeric or alphanumeric) fields based on a set of characters in the selected text.

I tried to recreate the issue by using the following scenarios anticipating that the OO4.0.1 may also sort the text like Ultra Edit software. I am thinking this is what the issue is the original author is referring to.

1. Launch open office 4.0.1 writer.

2. Type the following text in the given specific order.

T1REP

T5REP

T4REP

T2REP

T6REP

T3REP

3. Selected the above text and navigate to

Tool > Sort >

Select criteria checkbox “Key1”

Select Column 2

Select key type“Alphanumeric”

Select option“Ascending”

Click on “OK”

Following is the sorted order I have received when I did the alphanumeric sort.

Actual Result

T3REP

T6REP

T2REP

T4REP

T5REP

T1REP
The Open Office software did not sort the way I expected for the above scenario.
When I tried to sort the text within a table(rows/columns) it worked as expected which is sorted in the right order. Is the sort functionality in OO 4.0.1 is only intended for the text whithin a table ?

The expected result for the above scenario:
T1REP

T2REP

T3REP

T4REP
